China thinks it may have a solution to its growing car and congestion problem: giant buses that straddle the road. Although calling these monstrosities “buses” seem misguided (as they run on tracks, and independently of other street traffic), it’s obvious that they could greatly increase the speed and quality of your average Beijing commute. The shuttles arch over the road, allowing other vehicles to pass underneath. When the “bus” stops, it doesn’t slow the movement of traffic. By using available space between traffic lanes and dividers, the “straddling” buses are able to keep costs down. One estimate puts the price of one “bus” and 40 km of track (about 25 miles) at just 10-percent the cost of a subway train on a 40-km track. (We think they’re more like trolleys, anyway.) Since it’s powered by solar and existing electrical infrastructure, it’s better for the environment than a gas-burning auto.

Apple-iPad-001

For months now we have been hearing about the much anticipated Ipad.  Well, it has finally arrived.  There didn’t seem to be the mass hysteria that surrounded the Iphone release, with lines around the block, and people camping out for days ahead of time.  In fact, I saw a couple of people playing with them as they sipped cocktails and had snacks at a restaurant I was in.

So now that it is here, will it live up to the hype?  We asked this question a few weeks back.  I guess only time will tell.  I have seen numerous articles saying it actually does less than the Iphone.  It will be interesting to see how this pans out, and whether or not Apple will be able to ride the “Iwave” as they have done in the past with the Ipod and Iphone!

Nintendo will release the 3DS in 2011, which will allow players to experience 3-D graphics without needing glasses.

The console will rely on head-tracking software, which will simulate depth and perspective. AND for all you nerds, the 3DS will be compatible with original DS and DSi games.

There is no word on price or an official release date, but Nintendo is to reveal more at the E3 gaming convention in June.

Check this out. Just a very cool use of new technologies coming into play within an artistic means.

This is just the beginning – showing how virtual reality and the newer technologies of augmented reality will start making their way into our homes.

We featured GE’s augmented reality campaign a few months ago (Check out Post Here) and saw the immediate potential this technology could have in the future of marketing. We have used this benchmark in several client pitches and it never ceases to amaze the audience. Our friend Nancy Hoffman over at ADi sent us a link to this other group that had similar feelings and began to sketch out what some of these applications might look like.
