The “Stockholm Iron Lantern / Single” by Bobo

shapeimage_1

I just love this fixture. Taking it’s cue from a traditional lighting shape, but then following the form through the leading edge, and integrating a vintage bulb as the light source, brings warmth, sophistication, intrigue and sensitivity to the room. I look forward to learning more about Bobo. Love the name.

Freestylin’ it – with Coca-Cola

Three dispensers 300dpi

A few nights ago, I was watching a special on the tele about the World of Design within Coke.

Last night, I enjoyed a very professional and insightful lecture by Vince Voron, head of Industrial Design at Coca-Cola, (previously with Apple for several years).

One of the highlights of both of these evenings was the latest and greatest innovations within Coke and that’s their fountain-power product – the Freestyle machine.

Designed by Italy’s Pininfarina – it is a huge evolution in beverage distribution/consumption and offers more than a hundred flavors, using innovations in flavor/cartridge/infusions.

Although this video is a little, OK..it’s a lot dry…it’s insightful.

Lucky for me, there is one of these new machines nearby and I am anxious to check out the jewel-like features Vince spoke of and how human behaviors will adapt to this growing trend of giving the customer more for their money in terms of product experiences.

Check this out. Just a very cool use of new technologies coming into play within an artistic means.

This is just the beginning – showing how virtual reality and the newer technologies of augmented reality will start making their way into our homes.

Sony Still Hamming it Up

Similar to the quirkiness and color infusion of Sony’s previous campaigns, this continued effort still captures the imagination and spirit of “fun” associated with their brand, their followers and products. There was also an online component to Sony Ericsson’s campaign, which has been given mixed reviews by drawing more attention to the effect it had for Yahoo, rather than how inspiring it was for Sony Ericsson.

Leo Burnett in Sao Paulo created this print piece for Arcor Bubble Gum. Although I have never heard of this brand, I imagine the response was positive and uplifting to the overall brand of Arcor. Great execution/concept.

Which Font Should I Use?

Picture 1

The burning question for those embarking on a design project, whether educated in the fine art of type, and the craft of typography, or just those on a PC with a lot of preset/populated fonts. The difference though is – how when and when NOT to manipulate the font, and just like music, letting space exist (or not) to allow for a visual rhyme or reason.

I found a great website  which highlights a lot of beautiful work through publication design. The success of these pieces is the level of sensitivity, composition, style, concept and passion.
