Their Mission:
EarthBaby is committed to reducing the impact our children have on the environment by eliminating disposable diapers from landfills.
Inspiring Numbers:
2,000 pounds (1 ton!) of diapers composted this week and over 34,840 pounds of diapers composted to date!
Why we’re fans:
You know that bumper sticker you see – THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY? Well a few California parents have found their calling. EarthBaby Compostable Diaper Service was founded in late 2008 by a few Bay Area parents who believe that caring for our children as well as the planet we leave for them requires changing more than just diapers. Conservatively speaking the Bay Area sends about 350,000,000 diapers to landfill every year where they will not break down for about 500 years.
After conducting a beta test in Mountain View, Ca with about 20 families for 3 months to sort out some of the logistics, they officially opened for business in December of 2008. Currently they cover most neighborhoods from San Jose to San Mateo, as well as Santa Cruz and most recently they’ve added San Francisco.
They are on plan to serve the rest of the Bay Area in the coming months.
